A BALLOON FIESTA!!

It is amazing that I have not forgotten how to blog! I have been busy and then out of town. This week I loaded up the car and headed to Albuquerque, NM for the International Balloon Fiesta. It was just me w/ Lightning, Miss M and Sissy. My amazing GL stayed behind to watch Smiley and Baby H. He did a fabulous job . He even gave them baths. I was so impressed, I did not even have to ask or hint . I love my husband and I am so grateful he is a hands on Daddy! If you have never been to the Balloon Fiesta, Ya gotta go sometime. It is amazing!!!! I have never seen anything like this.

We went w/our cousins C,C, and G. Aunt MC and CS were the master minds behind this fun adventure. Thanks ladies... BRILLIANT idea!!!!!! Our cousins and Aunties stayed in a hotel.

We stayed w/my dear friend Joy and her sweet family . It is always great to have a local connection to help you out. Joy and her husband Jason are Pros when it comes to the Balloon Fiesta. Thank you Joy for letting us take over and invade your home. I am so grateful to have friends like Joy. She is the type of friend who loves unconditionally and no matter how far apart you are and how long it has been since you have seen each other, it is as if you were never apart. It was so fun just to talk and talk and did I say talk? This is her below w/her two sweet kiddos.
Look at these crazy huge balloons. On Thursday night we went to the Balloon field and watched them inflate all these balloons. You can walk among them and watch them do their thing. In the evening they blow up their balloons and do what they call a night glow . They keep them tethered and light them all up simultaneously. The pictures do not do it justice

It is even better when it is totally dark! None of those pictures turned out so I thought I would spare you. I have too many pictures in this post as it is. The kids just loved it!! They have a fire works show after the night glow. It only cost $6.00 to get in to the Balloon Fiesta. This is a great inexpensive and super fun family vacation idea.

When we were not being entertained by the balloons we took the kids to Tingly Beach. They got to play by the water and feed the ducks. We went

on a train ride and explored this poor headless dragons castle.(who was in charge of that camera?) We rode his ants, played inside his giant pumpkin, and played in his sand box. Albuquerque has a great Aquarium. We met our cousins and aunts there.

Back to the balloons... The most fun and amazing part of the Balloon Fiesta is getting up way before the sun and heading for the balloon field. Believe me it is worth the early morning lack of sleep, even if you stayed up talking till midnight or after. Each morning if the weather is right they have what they call a mass ascension. It is unbelievable to watch. They have people who bring their balloons from all over the world. They come in every shape and size. Again you are allowed to walk amongst them as they are being inflated and all taking off. All those hundreds and hundreds of balloons taking off and filling the sky is incredible to see. They had regular Hot Air Balloons and about any shape you could imagine. When we were in the car on the way home Miss M said " Mom we have just had a lovely adventure!" It really was a great adventure and a amazing sight to see!!!!!!

I am so impressed that you got this blogged already! We had sooo much fun with you and your kids! Allie kept asking why you had to go home. I have one correction for you. The night time event when they fire all their burners to make the balloons glow is called a "Glowdeo". Albuquerque started it in the 60's and now any Hot Air Balloon festival you go to does it. The "Special Shapes Glowdeo" was a blast. Thanks for bringing a little warm weather for us. Stay tuned, I will get mine blog updated too.

It is really an amazing thing to see. My in-laws lived in Albuquerque for a couple years so we were able to see it one year. Glad you had a fun trip!

You look like you guys had a blast. A much needed vacation with only 1/2 of your kiddos. That makes all the difference sometimes. And even better than you got to stay with Joy and her family. Those are my favorite kids of vacations.
