"The Twinkie"

The tale of "The Twinkie" is a sad one. C-Dog had so many hopes and dreams of  winning his last Pinewood Derby, it was not to be. When were they holding that darn thing anyways? Aren't your parents supposed to be on top of these things? The phone rings on what should have been a lazy Wednesday evening. The Scout Masters question so innocent.  "Does C-Dog have his car ready to weigh in tonight?" I sadly had to answer no, and sheepishly ask when said Pinewood Derby was to be held. I love being in the know..... The next night at six. Ummmmm, Ok, we can deal with this. We are good under pressure, I hope... There goes my little boys dreams smashed like an ant crawling up your leg ready to bite. How with school, Dad having to work, and Moms VERY limited knowledge of power tools was this kiddo even gonna get his car done? After quickly deciding on a pathetic idea for a car, checking Dads work schedule and scheduling the borrowing of power tools from a great Aunt. Not the kind you smash. We realized we could not have a cool car,  but we would have a car.  "The Twinkie" was born.

The best the twinkie did was 2nd in any of it's runs down the track . That was a fluke, last was usually it's favored position.
It won most original design. Who even knows where he is now? A place in C-Dogs memory box along with his first place winner, it has not earned.  Don't be discouraged, the boy still had a great time.

I am not so sure about the parents behind him. I considered captions with my guesses on their thoughts. I thought better of it, bad idea. Baseball on the other hand is going much better. His team is undefeated.

the pinewood derby is stressful for parents.
ahh, just keep reminding him it's just a dumb car race and baseball is way more cool! :)

I love his Twinkie car! I am very impressed that you pulled it off. I wouldn't have had a clue. I didn't realize how calculating the P.W.D. was.

Lovin' the Twinkie idea. I have a love/hate relationship with the Pinewood Derby. I always feel bad for the ones that come in last. Especially when the boys are so disappointed.

Yay for baseball!

Love the Twinkie! It turned out cute:) So sad when they dont win. I am sure he will be a good one for helping his little brothers with thier pinewood derby cars! Every year in our yw and ym they have a pinewood derby for them. So maybe its not his last one.

The Twinkie is a genius idea for a car name.

And you are a better scout mom than I am - since my boys all played baseball, I made sure that they were too busy to do the stupid pinewood derby, We skipped every one of them!
