A Coupon Revolution
I guess it would be my own coupon revolution. I have finally caught the coupon bug. I have tried several times, with no sucess. I guess with all I had going on I just didn't feel like I had the time, and it all seemed so overwhelming. Every couponer I know would wave their sucess in front of me and I wanted the same deal, I really did! I just couldn't talk myself into All the work I thought it would be. Was I really going to drag six or seven little people to several stores just to save a buck? It did not seem worth it.When I looked through Sunday adds before I always thought, junk food, that's all they print coupons for. Nothing my family eats.... I have always been one for a bargain. I love telling friends how little I paid for some treasure I found, even if it's only a treasure in my mind. I rarely pay full price for my kids clothes, and I love when me and my friends can recycle clothes till they can't be worn anymore.I really don't want my kids out in the back yard ruining that fabulous new shirt I paid full price for. Yes, we have play clothes and nice clothes at our house, but kids will be kids..... So with my love of a bargain and really feeling the need to make sure me and my family are prepared for the worst, I have started this family's coupon revolution. It really was not that hard. Yesterday morning I armed myself with my coupons. An envelope for each store, my home work done the night before. I could hardly wait to see how it would go. My first stop Fry's. I loaded my cart and worried, am I really going to save any money? Any Mom can look at her cart and give a decent ball park figure of what will be spent at the register. It's a sport, a knack, a talent we all have. A hazard of our daily occupation. I did the math, took a deep breath, and thought, "Ok, here goes nothin..." I am not used to buying in bulk at the grocery store. Mr M. has worked for Costco for 20 years and has just brought home what we needed. It is soooo-O nice, let me tell you. A built in personal shopper. Don't worry, we will still support our local Costco for some things. With my cart full to it's shiny silver edges, I made my way to the register and watched the numbers climb. Then I pulled out my envelope, handed the cashier my carefully hunted and calculated coupons and watched the total drop, drop, drop!! I had saved my first $104 on a grocery bill. Let the savings begin.... Let the year supply and preparedness begin. I have a little but not enough for this big family. Some woman dream of fancy cars and huge houses. I am dreaming of a large storage room full of what my family needs. I all ready have a shelf full of healthy, and some not so healthy cereals and I have paid as little as .20cents a box for a few. Not a bargain you will find very often. It is my goal to have shampoos, soaps, band aides, toothe paste and brushes. Just any old thing a family could need, and I am going to have lots of it at the lowest price, even FREE. Do you know how many things you can get for free? Did you know some stores may have to pay you before you leave? What a great feeling to know I can do this without breaking the bank. How crazy is it that I have been giving away my money for so many years? That is how I feel now, knowning that I can keep a lot of my money right here in my pocket and still not change how we eat.

GO Jamie!!!
Yay for saving money! Hopefully some day soon i will learn coupons too.
such a good feeling!
i used to be better at this.
i've been trying to use a few coupons more often lately.
but, nothing compared to this!
way to go!
I dream of those things too. We could make it several months with food, shampoo, etc. but I dream of being more fully stocked too. And I haven't been so good with the coupons lately. I clip them, but then forget to use them. And I used to be really good at ad matching at Walmart too. I need to be better. I do know that buying in bulk at Costco/Sam's doesn't always save money. I've learned to look at price per oz/unit and figure out which is really the bargain. But I do love some things that only Costco carries.
Look at you!
After reading something about spending more at Costco in the long run than if you shopped Walmart - we've been Costco delinquent. I still think there are things that you can only get there that make it worth it, but just yesterday, a small shopping trip ended up saving me 10.00 in coupons.
I love your header, Ordinary Miracles. I kinda live off of the ordinary miracles. But I cannot say I've been much of a coupon person yet in life - when I have my own place I'm sure I will though!
Love your blog! - Lindz
I do Coupon Sense. With getting newspapers and paying for service its like $20 a month. I used to spend like $120 a week at grocery store and now I spend less than $50 and have shelfs full of condiments, cereals, toothpaste, soaps. ITs great!
