It all started with Lightning wasting my precious Dermalogica body wash. I can not get it anymore at cost since I closed down my business to stay home with the kids. I won't pay full price because I know it's a rip off, but I LOOVE it! I found him using huge handfuls and unscrewing the cap and letting it fall and leak out all over the shower floor. NOT HAPPY about that. He asked for his own body wash. Smart idea young fella ,why did I not think of that? I had Layne home again on Saturday thanks to ASU football and so I took full advantage and ran errands on my own. I slowly made my way around the Target just browsing and taking my own sweet time. I reached in my purse a couple of times to get my phone or look to see what time it was. I wanted to make the most of my alone time. As I was browsing the liquid body soap isle. I DO NOT use bars, and because of what I know I will never use one again. Those babies can hold some serious bacteria when not used properly. We all know how kids use bar soap. Anyways, I digress, I was browsing a reading labels and trying to decide just how much money to spend on a kids jar of soap. Do I get the moisturizing soap because he is olive complected or the the yummy smelling cheap stuff. I noticed a guy hovering around me . He was not really doing much but pretending he was shopping he was mainly watching me. He would pick up an item walk around the corner put it back and pick up something else. The bells went off in my head. He thinks I am shoplifting because I am lingering and keep reaching into my purse. I have been a cashier at a grocery store and worked other retail jobs and know what a "SECRET SHOPPER IS" it has nothing to do with Christmas. They are plain closed security people trained to walk the store and pretend they are shopping while looking for shoplifters. I was not worried because I was not stealing anything but I did have an open bag of Halloween pumpkins and some Gobstoppers in my purse from the soccer game. Anyway I watched him watch me and thought it was funny until he continued to follow me up and down each isle. At this point I thought it was getting ridiculous so I headed to check out. He followed me. He grabbed a magazine and pretended to read it. Ok seriously!!! At this point I thought maybe he really thinks I stole something, so I said to the cashier really loudly to be sure I was heard. "Is that your secret shopper?" The cashier said "I don't know." "Well if it is he can stop following me I do not stea!!! There is NOTHING in Target I want to do jail time for, plus I used to work retail and I know what he's up to. I can spot a secret shopper from miles away" I looked right at the guy he put down his magazine and walked off back into the store. I just want to go to Target and be left alone by others and the Target employees is that to much to ask???????

That is hilarious! I had one follow me into a Mervyn's dressing room once. I knew she was one because Luvpilot worked at that store at the time, and pointed her out to me once. I WAS SO OFFENDED! I did have a shopping bag with me, but all I wanted to do was try on a different swimsuit to exchange with the one I had already bought the day before. I really wanted to call her out on it. I didn't, but I wish I would've.
Ok tell me about bar soap?? In an email if it's too disgusting.
How funny! Maybe you need your own secret shopper, a decoy so that no one will bother you while you shop! (just a silly little thought)
interesting. i wonder if that has ever happened to me and i just didn't notice. if that guy was their secret shopper they should think of getting a new one.
That's crazy!!! I didn't know people did that, I am sure I have been followed because I am always in and out of my purse, huh, gives me something to think about next time I go shopping.
I will definatly think.. Probably not though.. (not when you have 7 with you) ;)
holy crap! what kind of dork.and really, couldn't he tell you are weren't stealing anything, and seriously the 3 bucks worth of candy you brought in with you in your purse isn't worth following you around even if you did steal it. which you didn't stupid guy!
What a pain, that could sure be a damper in your shopping experience. Big bummer.
That is annoying, not to mention a little creepy. I guess there aren't many of us label readers out there!
I would've been creeped out! But yes, I worked at Mervyn's a long time ago and remember they had plain-clothes security that did that too. I'm glad you called him out on it! I used to have ladies follow me with their EYES in jewelry stores when I was a teenager. Geez did I have THIEF written on my forehead? I've never stolen anything & can't stand when they look at you like you're doing something wrong!
I agree...just leave us alone to shop esp when we're without the kids!
