Control
I am a tiny control freak. No really... I am not in denial! Maybe it's just that I am a take charge sorta gal. If it needs to be done then I just get it done. I pride my self in allowing my children to do as much for themselves as they can.I call it sanity... So why is it I pick out every stitch of their clothes? Is is a control issue, or a just get it done issue? Maybe it's because they have all been so little for so long and have shown no interest at all in it. C-Dog does not care about his clothes yet, he is a boy.... I was just sitting with Sweet K and she was asking why she has no new school clothes? I let her know I had ordered some online and that was all she is getting. Thanks to fabulous friends we are stocked up on cute girl clothes I paid nada for. That makes me smile. I just can't justify and entire new school wardrobe when they have perfectly good clothes they will manage to destroy at some point sitting in their drawers just waiting for school to start. As I was talking to her I remembered how fun school shopping with my Mom was. The fun and excitement of picking out something that was new and just for me.The bringing it home hanging it in my closet and checking it out every day until that long summer ended and I could pull them off that hanger and finally wear them. It was part of the fun of the first day of school. I remembered my Mom never bought a new closet full of clothes but we did get a few new things every year and we got to pick them out ourselves. Sweet K is SOOO-O excited to go to the big school with the big kids, and what would the first day of Kindergarten be with out that crisp clean out fit she got to pick out herself? I want to see that beaming smile full of pride and independence as she puts on those cute things she picked out herself and heads to the "big kids school." I would take a little shy and very sad to let me go, but if you know this kid it probably won't happen. So I guess when our family vacation is over I will plan a fun little Mom and me time. I will bite the bullet and take my girls to pick out that one fun first day of school out fit. They may not "need" it but the time with and me and the memory are always worth a few extra dollars. You all know me, they can only shop the sale and the clearance rack items. I can not give up full control......

I have those same fun memories of going shopping for school clothes, and then trying to decide what to wear the first day. But with boys, they've never really cared what I bought for them to wear. Taylor only just now is starting to pay attention to his clothes. Good for you for recognizing your girls' need for this. I'm sure it will make some lasting memories.
I remember that Too:) Fun! Mom always made sure we had something new for school. I tried to keep that up with chantel and It is a fun tradition to keep going. (even though the boys dont care as much) Maybe when you go shopping for clothes we can meet you and do lunch with all the girls.
I remember those days too. I would get so excited to wear the new outfit and I loved that it smelled like the department store I bought it at.
But I know how you feel about not needing to buy new clothes. Emily is a very slow grower and usually she doesn't need anything new so I feel like we shouldn't spend money on things we don't need. We usually end up buying her a couple of outfits and some new shoes and a new backpack, everyone is usually happy with that.
I love those innocent eyes she makes, yet you can totally see the attitude behind them :)
Yay for "Big Girl" school. She is going to be so stylish in what ever she wears because she is such a cutie!
Oh I remember the joys of that 1st day outfit as well. I think my girls will enjoy this a little more than the boys have. They don't really seem to care much what they wear. But I think I will get to have a little more fun "school shopping" this summer than ever before...since I will have a buddy with me! :)
The first day of school outfit is the best. And if you can make a fun day of shopping for it - all the more power to you! memories for sure!
